Summary

An explosive conspiracy sets the ocean roiling for a deep-diving investigator in a riveting thriller by the author of the Amazon Charts bestseller The Girl Beneath the Sea。

A distress call draws rescuers Sloan McPherson and the Underwater Investigation Unit to a cruise ship off the coast of Fort Lauderdale that’s sinking from a mysterious explosion。 When it appears to be the work of an ecoterrorist and other ships are threatened, it becomes a race against time。 More clues are discovered, and evidence is in danger of being washed away by a coming tropical storm。 Sloan grows concerned that key details are being ignored, and a strange lack of urgency by authorities sets off alarms。

As the troubling questions compound, Sloan is determined to chase down every lead she has。 Her persistence is getting her closer to the truth: that there’s something far more troubling at play than the official explanation。 It’s also putting Sloan on a collision course with an enemy more powerful than she realizes, in a case so complex and deadly it may be impossible to prove。 Now cracking the case is a matter of staying one step ahead of someone with every resource imaginable to bury Sloan and everything she knows。

I've read other books (like the Theo Cray series) by Andrew Mayne。 But I hadn't gotten around to his Underwater Investigation Unit series yet。 This is the third book in the series, and I'm getting the first two books immediately! Sea Storm started with a literal boom, and never slowed down from there。 The action was unrelenting, but not to the point where the reader starts to get 'tired' and question it all。 Once again, Mayne gives us characters who are well developed。 He's as good at writing women as he is at men, which is good, given that the main character here is a married with kids woman。 Albeit one who kicks some major underwater butt。 She comes off as very real though, not as some adrenalin based macho fantasy。 I think one of the things I liked most was her devil may care attitude, as well as her acceptance and admittance that sometimes she messes up。 She's very human。 The only criticism I have is that some (not all just some) of the secondary characters come off a bit two dimensional, but it's okay in this case, or passable, as they aren't there very long。 It would be harder to flesh them out further unless given more time on the page。 The action is believable, and I found the premise behind the plot to be well explained and interesting。 Something not often handled in mysteries, and I won't say more so as not to spoil it。 This is another case in a mystery plot, where what you think you see, may not be exactly what you're getting。 The mystery is fairly easy to figure out once certain facts are known, but Sea Storm comes across to me as more of an action thriller with mystery thrown in for good measure。 It was quite a fun read, and I enjoyed myself immensely。 I couldn't put it down and finished it in one day and late night of solid reading。I'd recommend this book as a near perfect beach or travel read for anyone who doesn't like all the typical "chick lit" on the market or wants something thrilling and action packed。 I don't think men would be turned off by this female main character, and shouldn't let it stand in the way of their new thriller read。 Mayne is expert at keeping the pace and tension going。 The book is also great for anyone who likes mysteries, books featuring dive teams, government agency work (like FBI for example), or international intrigue。 Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers Thomas & Mercer for this DRM in exchange for my honest review of Sea Storm by Andrew Mayne。。 。。。more

I adore this series。 I picked up the second book in the series without thinking much about it and ending up loving the characters and the way that Mayne writes his stories。 I went back and read the first one before starting on the third, which I read back in October because I had to read it right when I got access to it! Andrew Mayne is a fabulous story teller of the Underwater Investigative Unit。 I am a sucker for great police stories, and this series is absolutely one of these。 Sea Storm is the third book in the UIU series, and while it may be helpful to have read the past books in the series, I don’t think it is necessarily required。 This book follows Sloan McPherson and her small unit of underwater investigators while trying to solve the mystery of a small cruise ship that someone has attempted to blow up。 I Andrew Mayne is a fabulous story teller of the Underwater Investigative Unit。 I am a sucker for great police stories, and this series is absolutely one of these。 Sea Storm is the third book in the UIU series, and while it may be helpful to have read the past books in the series, I don’t think it is necessarily required。 This book follows Sloan McPherson and her small unit of underwater investigators while trying to solve the mystery of a small cruise ship that someone has attempted to blow up。 I was so enthralled with the story and kept picturing it like a movie or tv series in my head。 Such a fun and entertaining read! The third book in the underwater investigation unit series did not disappoint。 5/5 It’s fast paced and you don’t want to put the book down。 McPherson, Solar, and Hughes make the best team。 This series has quickly become my favorite。 I love that this book took on some intense rivals。 The dive portions are always fun to read as well! Could not recommend this series more *Thank you to NetGalley and especially Thomas and Mercer for allowing me to read the arc in return for an honest review。

Andrew Mayne certainly knows how to write a compelling thriller, and I really enjoy this Underwater Investigation Unit series。 The underwater scenes are so vivid that I felt as though I were swimming alongside Sloan as she dodged pursuers and raced to bring a James Bond-like villain to justice。 Sloan McPherson is definitely the star of this show。 The McPherson clan is filled with scallywags and pirates which means that sometimes all she has to do is ask a relative to get information on a lead s Andrew Mayne certainly knows how to write a compelling thriller, and I really enjoy this Underwater Investigation Unit series。 The underwater scenes are so vivid that I felt as though I were swimming alongside Sloan as she dodged pursuers and raced to bring a James Bond-like villain to justice。 Sloan McPherson is definitely the star of this show。 The McPherson clan is filled with scallywags and pirates which means that sometimes all she has to do is ask a relative to get information on a lead she's developing。 She has phenomenal instincts and an amazing knack for putting clues together which the other members of her team are learning to rely on more and more。 The dashes of humor throughout Sea Storm are usually at her expense but in the spirit of camaraderie which readers will have a greater appreciation of if they've read the other two books in the series。 I have read those other two books (The Girl Beneath the Sea and Black Coral), and one of the things I like the most is Sloan's character development。 Sloan is growing up as the series progresses。 She's learning to control her impulsiveness as well as to rely on her own opinions rather than looking for validation from men。A main character with a distinctive (and addictive) voice, thrilling underwater scenes, and a compelling mystery all mean that, once again, I'm looking forward to Sloan McPherson's next adventure。 Bring it on!(Review copy courtesy of the publisher and Net Galley) 。。。more

Another rollicking tale from the UIU! I read the previous book in this series and I was excited to read this one。 It didn't disappoint。Sloan and her partner Hughes are tasked to figure out what happened when there were explosions on a cruise ship, carrying thousands of people。 Of course, they have to also rescue some passengers as well, and the pages devoted to that rescue reminded me a bit of The Titanic when it was sinking and people were trying to escape etc。 Exciting stuff!Of course, this is Another rollicking tale from the UIU! This is the third book featuring Sloan McPherson and the Underwater Investigation Unit (UIU)。 The unit is called, along with other agencies, to a stricken cruise ship off the Florida coast。 Passengers are being ushered into lifeboats but as Sloan and her partner, Scott Hughes, search the ship they learn there are some crew members trapped behind a door where the deck has buckled preventing it from opening。 Scott, former navy seal as well former cop just happens to have a small block of C4 explos This is the third book featuring Sloan McPherson and the Underwater Investigation Unit (UIU)。 The unit is called, along with other agencies, to a stricken cruise ship off the Florida coast。 Passengers are being ushered into lifeboats but as Sloan and her partner, Scott Hughes, search the ship they learn there are some crew members trapped behind a door where the deck has buckled preventing it from opening。 Scott, former navy seal as well former cop just happens to have a small block of C4 explosive which he uses to blow the door open and the crew is rescued。During their scouting on the ship they note that the damage doesn’t make sense。 It looks like it was meant to deliberately disable the ship rather than sink it - which would tend to rule out terrorism。 Could it be ecoterrorism? The only communication is a veiled threat to another vessel operating out of New York。 The next day FBI divers scout around under the ship for evidence but Sloan has a different idea of where to search as she knows these waters very well。 So she goes out at night with Run (her baby daddy) and teenage daughter Jackie。 A storm is coming which could change the pattern of the sand and cover up evidence。 They find what looks like broken pieces of a drone。 On another visit to the stricken vessel Sloan and Hughes notice a square section of a bulkhead had been been cut away。 There is a vacant space but no evidence of what could have been hidden there。 Drugs perhaps? Who knows?Inquiries and guesswork lead them to suspect a well known eco terrorist, Maxim Schrulcraft but when they finally locate his boat and Sloan drops in through a window, she only narrowly avoids being blown up。 The whole boat is rigged with explosives。 The FBI is keen to close the case saying their bomber is dead。But now the UIU is obsessed with the hidden compartment in the bulkhead。 As they get closer to the truth they get more and more obstacles thrown in their path。 Somebody with lots of influence wants to shut them down。 But Sloan is not the sort of person who lets herself be shutdown。 It’s a good story with an exciting ending but it just didn’t feel as good as the earlier books, possibly because there was much less on/under water action。 Many thanks to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly。3。5 stars rounded down。 。。。more

I’ve been a fan of this series from the beginning and this new addition doesn’t disappoint。 It’s a fun, entertaining thriller that romps along at a fast pace。 There are plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader engaged, which makes sense, since Mayne knows his stuff and it shows。 While this is book 3 and can be read as a stand-alone, why would you want to miss this great series? I recommend this for everyone looking for an action packed thriller with interesting characters。 My thanks to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for an advance copy of this book。 。。。more

I was very happy to get the third UIU book from NetGalley! Honestly, there was a part of me that was tempted to not finish this one。 Something about it just didn't grab me like the last one did。 I wanted more Sloan/Hughes/Solar scenes than were there。 I really like the dynamic they have as a team and wanted to me more of it。 I remember having a similar note for when I read Black Coral; I wanted more scenes with Sloan and Solar working together but he wasn't in it as much。 I also would've like to I was very happy to get the third UIU book from NetGalley! Another fun, fast read in the Sloan McPherson and UIU series。 As Florida native, who happens to live in the Ft。 Lauderdale area and an avid cruiser, I really enjoyed the setting and story for this one。 This a solid series and I recommend reading the books in order。 I look forward to see what UIU investigates next。Thank you #netgalley and #thomas&mercer for the eARC。
